About this video:
Deadly Sounds in the Silent World II
One of the critical issues that the “Save the Whales
Again!” campaign is focusing on is underwater noise
pollution. Our latest film, “Deadly Sounds in the Silent
World II”, which is introduced by Pierce Brosnan and
his wife Keely Shaye, examines this deadly dangerous
issue which most people are not even aware of.
Underwater noise pollution is caused by the proliferation
of high intensity, manmade, underwater sounds which are
produced from seismic surveys used in underwater gas &
oil exploration, military active sonars, ship engines, and
underwater demolition, all of which are filling the seas.
The problem with these manmade sounds is that some are so
loud and intense, they are needlessly injuring, deafening,
and even killing marine life including dolphins, whales,
and heavily depleted fish stocks the world over.
“Deadly Sounds in the Silent World II” will
be presented and distributed to the delegates attending
the June 14th, 2006 meeting of the United Nations (UN) Law
of the Sea Conference. This film calls on the UN to take
the lead in regulating manmade, underwater noise to ensure
the health and safety of our oceans and all marine life
while ensuring the health and safety of ourselves.
