First Star
Putting Children First.

First Star works to change the U.S. child welfare system from
one of abuse and neglect to one of protection and support
and serves as a catalyst for meaningful reform through communication,
education and legislation.
Our nonpartisan, multidisciplinary approach fosters collaborative
action among organizations, advocates, practitioners and
policy-makers working to benefit all children.
First Star was founded in 1999 as a national 501(c)(3)
public charity dedicated to improving life for child victims
of abuse and neglect. First Star’s co-founder and
president, Peter Samuelson, is a motion picture executive
who also founded the Starlight Children's Foundation in
1982 and the Starbright Foundation in 1990.

On June 3, 2006, Pierce and Keely received a Humanitarian Award from First Star.
