Earth Communications Office (ECO)
ECO uses the power of communication to improve the global environment.
Founded ten years ago, The Earth Communications Office (ECO) uses the power of communication to improve the global environment. Utilizing the skills and talents of members of the entertainment industry, ECO creates public service campaigns that educate and inspire people around the world to take action to protect the planet.
ECO's Board of Directors is comprised of leaders in film, television, music, advertising, and virtually all aspects of communication. Some of ECO's most prominent Board members include: actors Ed Begley, Jr., Pierce Brosnan, Cindy Crawford, James Cromwell, Woody Harrelson, Sharon Lawrence, Donna Mills, and Mimi Rogers; producers Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, and Debra Hill; and musicians Bob Weir and Toni Childs.
ECO's campaigns utilize the talent of the finest artists and communications experts anywhere and have been endorsed by the White House, U.S. Congressional leaders, the head of the United Nations Environment Programme, and by scientific and environmental leaders. ECO's PSAs are broadcast on movie screens, television, and radio, and through a unique network of ancillary outlets including airlines, stadiums, retail outlets, schools, hotels, home videos, CD ROMs, and the Internet.
ECO consults with and educates studios, advertising agencies, post production houses and other communications-based businesses on how to operate their facilities in a more environmentally friendly manner. ECO has helped to eliminate the use of the rain forest wood Lauan in movie and television set construction and helped to stop the wasteful packaging of the CD longbox used by record companies.
