The Match
Directed by Mick Davis
In the idyllic Scottish Highland village of Inverdoune, the ancestral feud between the original owners of Benny's Bar, spiritual home of its charmingly eccentric clientele, and Le Bistro, presently owned by former professional footballer and preening narcissist George Gus (Richard E. Grant) is to be finally resolved by the result of the annual football contest between the two bars in this, the hundredth year, of the contest.
Wullie Smith (Max Beesley), still carrying the physical and emotional scars of the childhood death of his younger brother, is the village milkman, locally known for his remarkable TFR (Total Football Recall) and for his not-very-secret love for Rosemary Bailey (Laura Fraser), briefly back in the village before leaving again to pursue a career in the big city. With Wullie at the helm, a rag-tag assembly of pub denizens pulls together to attempt win the contest and keep Benny's Bar "in the family" and Wullie tries to win Rosemary's heart as well.
